Design
I created Shen Tao equipment initially for my own use, both as a practitioner, and as an instructor.
I wanted equipment that would allow me to accommodate larger numbers of students within a limited space.
I wanted each piece of equipment to have a minimal footprint, to be portable, collapsible, lightweight enough to be easily moved, and yet stable enough to be rock solid when in use.
I wanted to design equipment that was pleasant to the touch, with rounded surfaces wherever possible.
I wanted to make them from beautiful woods, and sand and finish them to be both visually beautiful, as well as kinesthetically pleasurable to touch.
I needed the accessories, and settings of the equipment to be solid, easy and effortless to adjust.
I wanted all the pieces to have modular relationships to each other so that they could be combined together in creative, and innovative ways in order to expand the potential exercise vocabulary.
Lastly, I needed each piece of equipment to be able to perform as many exercises as possible.
