Calf Stretcher

design

The priorities influencing the design of the Calf Stretcher were that it should be understated, subtle, inconspicuous, aesthetically pleasing, space efficient, and rock solid. It should require minimal set up time, be easy to store away, and essentially invisible when not in use.

2nd gen Calf stretcher

The second-generation calf stretcher is constructed from three pieces of 1 and 1/8-inch thick red oak, designed for durability and performance. Each piece features a 3/8-inch round over and is sanded to 220 grit, then finished with five coats of hand-rubbed polyurethane for a smooth surface. The horizontal beam is wrapped with a sheet of black rubber nubs, enhancing its functionality for foot traction.

Weighing 3.75 pounds and measuring 14 inches by 5 inches by 5 inches, this calf stretcher is assembled using a glue and dowel method, which minimizes the visibility of metal hardware while maintaining a clean and aesthetic appearance.

Its dimensions are 16 inches by 5 inches by 5 inches, providing a compact yet sturdy design. The horizontal crossbar is upholstered with a quarter-inch sleeve of hard rubber, enhancing the user’s experience and providing additional traction for effective stretching.
